5 year old German Shepherd, Male Neutered
Silver
Silver is an exceptional cartoon of a dog!! He is a goofball and has a great sense of humor. He is fun and exciting, loves affection and will do anything for you. If you are looking for a smart, emotionally intelligent, curious dog - then look no further.
Silver came to us as a COVID dog--he lived in a home with an elderly lady and grew protective of her due to little to no socialization. He has lived with children before and is a playful housemate with them. Due to his protective tendencies, he needs to be in a fenced in yard or always on a leash. He cannot go to a home with small animals or cats.
He is exuberantly playful especially with dogs his size or larger! He loves water and playing fetch and is crate and house trained. We are working on his leash manners to encourage him to be more polite.
Regardless, Silver would love to be in a home with a "been-there-done-that" type role model dog--but it is not a requirement. He is such a joyful boy and has never had a bad day--the only times we have seen him stressed are when he wants to be included or join in on the fun--he can be a clingy boy. No separation anxiety, just FOMO.
Silver would make an excellent hiking, jogging or sport partner!

3 year old German Shepherd Mix, Male
Floki
Floki came to us locally from a cruelty investigation . He was physically abused often and bit his abuser to protect himself. At only a year old, the local shelter wanted to euthanize him for standing up against the human who treated him poorly!
In our environment, Floki has been flourishing. He is no longer worried about when his next meal will come or if he will receive kindness. Floki LOVES having other dogs around to play with and is the most affectionate, silly, and goofy playmate with them!
Floki has some interest in cat chasing but will do not harm--it stems from curiosity and the strong desire to play.
Because of his former treatment, Floki is best in a home with children over `12.
This sweet boy is learning all of his basic obedience and leash manners with us, is crate and house trained, and ready to totally steal your heart!
He will benefit from a home that will offer him the patience and softness he needs, while still setting boundaries with his exuberant, young male self!

5 year old German Shepherd, Male Neutered
Fargo
Fargo, or Farley, like the late Chris Farley, is a large, sweet, and silly boy. He came into our care fat fat fat fat fatttttttt--it was pretty gross and limited his physical abilities a LOT. But man he is looking goooood now that he is on a healthy diet and gets proper exercise!
He would play fetch with his chuck-it all day long!
Farley is close to 3 years old which means, yes, he is another COVID shepherd. We seem to be collecting those here...Farley has some fear-based reactivity on leash to people and other dogs. He lives in a doggie daycare and is eager to make friends off leash. His on-leash manners are being rehabilitated while he is with us and he is doing STELLAR.
Farley has somewhat of a mystery history. He has been owned by at least five, now six, people in his short life. He was born and lived in TX until his first owner was arrested. I have NO idea how he ended up in Maine--honestly it's very sad and scary how dogs can so easily fall through the cracks--but we weren't about to let that happen! Farley was going to be surrendered to a local Maine shelter and would have been euthanized for his leash reactivity.
Farley has had no issue meeting people here, off leash, or on, and has had amazing interactions with cats too!
His last owner was very physically abusive, and this makes Farley weary of quick movements and sometimes shy when getting to know men. He will not react with teeth, but instead cower and cry and shut down if he is afraid. He is not used to a kind and gentle home and we are showing him how to navigate it all.
Don't miss out on this FORMERLY chonky boi!

7 year old German Shepherd Mix, Male Neutered
Sprout
Sprout is like a lion--he is calm, HUGE, expressive, and often looks scarier than he is!
This guy is happiest living with other dogs. Sprout needs a fenced in yard and would need more time to modify his leash reactivity before neighborhood walks or adventures would be peaceful. He can also be reactive in the car when he is the only dog.
His reactivity came out in a lovely home where he was the only dog. Prior to this home, he showed little to no reactivity and was calm, confident, and secure.
Sprout is friendly to dogs of all sizes and ages! He is a great role model for male dogs and has been a kind of dad/grandfather type to some of our other dogs here.
Sprout asks for very little, but deserves the whole world!
He is an easy housemate--non-destructive, clean, and unobtrusive. He will shamelessly beg for all food, all the time, and loves snacks and treats. If he is in the mood to snuggle, he is SO polite about it! Sprout is very clear when he does not want much physical touch, and needs a home where all members will respect his wishes when he wants to be alone.

4 year old German Shepherd, Female Spayed
Dolly
This angel is one in a million!!
Dolly is great with all living creatures--human and animal. She defies so many stereotypes of shepherds!!
This amazing dog needs to live with another dog. She thrives on having a role model when it comes to house manners and expectations, plus a buddy that will be home with her during your work day to prevent mischievous behavior.
She is crate trained, house trained, and has great basics.
She does, however, need a fenced in yard or to ALWAYS be leashed. She also needs work around doorways where she has a tendency to dart. She has proven to be an escape artist eager to explore when the opportunity arises!
Because of her opportunistic behavior, a home with small kids that may open or close doors will not be ideal. She is great with children, but the risk they pose to a dog like Dolly is too great.

2 year old German Shepherd, Male
Rudolph
Rudolph's story began like way too many southern dogs...
He was found emaciated, almost dead, living on a chain.
His story before the chain is not known--but his story WILL be a happy-ever-after!!
Rudolph does well playing with dogs his size and larger! He does showcase prey drive towards small animals, and thus is likely not cat friendly.
Because we have no history of his life other than the chain, we also do not know if he was ever exposed to children. To be safe, he will not be placed in a home with children under 12.
This gorgeous, fun, and athletic boy would thrive in an active home. He is still learning leash manners, but even so, would make an incredible hiking partner!
Rudi is non-reactive towards strangers or other animals--a true miracle given what he has been through! He believes everyone is his friend.
Please consider giving this gorgeous boy the chance to live in a real home, with kindness and love, where he can thrive.
